Year 8 maths worksheets

Free Year 8 maths worksheets with answers and hand-written solutions. 25 topics, one sheet each, in the order a school teaches them. Print them or answer online for an instant score, with no account and no sign-up.

Year 8 is the middle year of Key Stage 3 and the busiest: it is where index laws, circles, inequalities, angles in parallel lines and probability all appear for the first time, while fractions, percentages and equations are pushed further than Year 7. This page collects the 25 Year 8 topics from our KS3 maths library. Each sheet has 12 original questions, with an answers sheet for quick marking and a solutions sheet written out by hand.

Most of the Year 8 content reappears almost unchanged at GCSE grades 3 to 5, so time spent here is not wasted even if the school test is a long way off.

How to use the worksheets

Print it. Every topic has three PDFs: the worksheet, an answers sheet for quick marking, and a solutions sheet with every step written out by hand. Print the worksheet on its own and keep the solutions back until the questions have been attempted.

Or answer online. Open the topic page, type each answer into the box and check it. The page marks it straight away and keeps your best score in this browser. Score 80% or more and the topic is ticked as done on the KS3 library; you can also tick a topic by hand.

Use the solutions properly. The solutions are hand-written, one step per line, the way a tutor writes next to a student. If an answer is wrong, cover the solution, find the first line that differs from your working and redo the question from there. That is where the learning happens, not in reading the whole solution through.

Keep a RAG sheet. The KS3 RAG sheet colours each topic red, amber or green from your scores, so a parent or tutor can see at a glance which topics need another go before the next school test.

Frequently asked questions

Which Year 8 topics matter most for GCSE?
Index laws, percentages and percentage change, solving equations and changing the subject, angles in parallel lines, and area and circumference of circles. All five are examined directly at GCSE and are the base for Higher-tier work later. If time is short, do those first.
My child is in Year 8 but finds the Year 8 sheets too hard. What should they do?
Drop back to the matching Year 7 sheet for that topic: fractions, negative numbers, angles and area all have a Year 7 version. A score of 80% or more on the Year 7 sheet is the sign to come back up. There is no shame in it; the gap is usually small and specific.
Are there answers as well as solutions?
Yes. Each topic has an answers sheet (final answers only, for marking in a minute) and a separate solutions sheet with every step written out by hand. Use the answers sheet to mark and the solutions sheet to find out why an answer was wrong.
Can a teacher photocopy these for a class?
Yes. The sheets are free for classroom and home use: print, photocopy and share them as you like. The only things we ask are that they are not sold on or re-hosted on another site.
